Hi. I'm Caroline, a BACP Accredited Female Counsellor.

Caroline Harland. Counselling for Women. Therapist for Women London Online

I've always been deeply passionate about supporting others and believe that emotional health and well-being deserve a safe, nurturing space to flourish. My journey in the mental health field began in 2015 when I started volunteering with a UK mental health charity. That experience ignited my dedication to this work, leading me to pursue a counselling degree and eventually become an accredited BACP psychotherapist.

As a feminist, I believe deeply in the transformative power of equality, connection, and compassion. These values shape both my life and my therapeutic practice. I bring curiosity, creativity, and an open heart to every session, with a genuine care for helping women like you untangle the complexities of life and discover clarity, strength, and peace within themselves.

Outside of my work as a therapist, I embrace a lifestyle rooted in spirituality and slow living. I find joy in spending time in nature, journaling, practicing yoga, mindfulness and meditation. These practices inspire my approach to therapy and help me stay grounded and connected.

I've worked in NHS Talking Therapies as a counsellor and NICE-approved PCE-CfD practitioner - a specialised way of working with emotions, depression, and anxiety. Now, in private practice, I provide a caring space for self-reflection and personal growth, whether in-person or online. When appropriate, I offer psycho-education to help you understand what you’re experiencing and share practical tools for your day-to-day well-being.

I’m experienced in working with women and…

  • Life Traumas

  • Female Health Conditions

  • Relationships

  • Being Childless

  • Chronic Health Issues

  • Career Challenges

  • Menopause

  • ADHD

  • Motherhood

  • Domestic Abuse

  • Fertility Issues

  • Sexuality and Identity

Women often juggle complex roles and expectations, and life’s challenges can sometimes feel overwhelming. You don’t have to face them alone. Together, we can navigate what you’re going through and work towards meaningful change. I’m here to help you make sense of your world, no matter how complicated or messy it may feel.

Perhaps you notice you…

  • Strive for perfection

  • Have a fear of failure

  • Never feel ‘enough'

  • Feel overwhelmed

  • Lack boundaries

  • Fear others judge you

  • Are overly self-critical

  • Feel like an imposter

  • Worry all the time

  • Are stuck in comparison mode

Counselling is self care

Like yoga but different. It’s caring for your emotional and spiritual well-being through talking.

Something truly special can happen when we build a therapeutic relationship rooted in safety and honesty. I take a relaxed, authentic approach to helping you understand yourself more, be with your emotions and find meaning in your experiences.

Person-centred therapy is at the heart of how I work. I specialise in you. I meet you where you are, co-collaborating to explore your needs and goals. I blend evidence-based techniques with a holistic approach to hold sessions that feel supportive and helpful.

Therapy is about those moments when you start seeing things in a new light - things that might have felt hidden or out of reach. That newfound awareness can open the door to healing, growth, and self-discovery.

As your therapist, it can be immensely valuable to create a space where you feel seen and truly heard - perhaps for the first time. Together, we’ll explore what you need, so you can build on trusting your feelings, instincts, and choices. It’s a privilege to be considered a part of your journey, helping you nurture your relationship with yourself and feel more at ease in your world.

Counselling together is...

  • Confidential

  • Open

  • Unconditional Positive Regard

  • Safe

  • Empathetic

  • Listening

  • Learning

  • Inner Work

  • Non-directive

  • Genuine

Counselling FAQS

Why should I choose you as my therapist?

When choosing a therapist, psychotherapist or counsellor - I consider myself to be all three as these words are interchangable. It is important to look for two things.

Firstly, that they are registered with a recognised professional body such as The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Visit the BACP Register where you can verify my status (Caroline Harland Registration Number 382458).

I am also accredited (MBACP Accred) which means I have passed BACP's higher standard as a competent, ethical and independent practitioner.

Secondly, a recognised qualification from a reputable institution. I hold both a BA (Hons) in Person-Centred Counselling awarded by Middlesex University, as well as a Diploma in Counselling from The Metanoia Institute which is a highly regarded organisation specialising exclusively in counselling and psychotherapy training.

It's really important to create a trusting therapeutic relationship that is right for you. That's why I offer a FREE 15 minute chat over the phone before your first session so we can make sure we're a good fit together.

Where do sessions take place?

I offer a blended approach of in-person at London Bridge and/or online via Google Meet or the telephone so you can be based anywhere in the UK for sessions. Get in touch to have a chat!

I'm interested to know more. What's the next step?

Confidentiality. How can I be sure what I bring to sessions will be kept private?

I get it. There may be things you’d like to bring to counselling, but they feel too huge or painful to talk about. Perhaps there are things you’ve kept secret, and while you want to share, you’re fearful, feeling guilty or ashamed. How can you be sure what you share will be kept safe?

Sessions are confidential; I am bound by the BACP code of ethics. This also means I must keep you, my client, safe.

There are a couple of exceptional circumstances I may need to break confidentiality (risk of harm to yourself or someone else, disclosure of money laundering or acts of terrorism). In any case, I would always endeavour to speak to you first.

Also, regular supervision is a vital support for all therapists to ensure safe, ethical and best practice. This means I may discuss some of your session with my supervisor; however, you will remain anonymous, and my supervisor is also bound by the BACP code of ethics.

All types of counselling are confusing. I don’t know what is right for me.

With dozens of main types of therapy, it can feel challenging to know what’s going to work best for you.

That’s why it’s so important to take your time and do some research. There are some basic groups of therapy modalities, such as humanistic (person-centred, gestalt), solution-focused (CBT, NLP) or integrative (a blend of various modalities to suit each client).

It depends upon many factors such as what’s going on for you, how you’d like to access the session, the cost and hopes you have for therapy. Remember, what may suit a friend or colleague may not suit you.

Therapy is a choice. A choice to help guide you towards a more fulfilled, contented, less stressed, more accepting version of yourself.

And the really important part - if you take anything away from reading this is - it's often the relationship created between you and your therapist that will offer the most insight and help for you.

50 Minutes for myself feels unfamiliar and self-indulgent. Can you reassure me?

I’m all about self-care. It demonstrates self-love, and I believe it’s an important part of healing and personal growth. So while it may feel strange and new to dedicate some weekly time to explore your feelings, it’s a way to say ‘I care about myself’ and ‘I am worthy’.

When you consider there are 10,080 minutes in a week, having a counselling session still leaves you with over 10,000! And of course, the feelings you have around counselling can be explored to help you understand what might be going on for you.

Therapy is a journey. You might know the destination you want to arrive at, but the journey to get there through therapy does take work, and the route can be bumpy - to be honest, to be real, and sometimes that’s painful. But through the pain comes healing, and that is the beauty of embarking upon a therapeutic journey.

That is why I feel honoured to be a therapist. To be with you and support you in understanding yourself more, to be able to truly shine.

How many sessions do I need?

Although there is no minimum or maximum, often 10-20 weekly sessions can be particularly beneficial.

While some clients continue for years, others feel ready to stop after 6 sessions.

It's a personal choice and something we can discuss together in regular reviews to ensure you're getting all you need from sessions.

Is therapy right for me?

I’m a female, feminist, person-centred counsellor who works with women, and I want to share with you some thoughts to help you make the right decision for you.

Because ultimately, that’s what therapy is all about - making changes so you can feel better; be it about yourself, your identity, relationships, career, emotional health, physical health, friendships and whether that manifests as stress, anxiety, trauma, depression…

I work with women because, identifying as a cis-female, I understand deeply how the issues a woman may face can impact her sense of self and confront the very core of who she is as a person. Be it motherhood, perinatal mental health issues, infertility, chronic illness, cancer, domestic abuse or menopause...

These challenges can often, at the very least, take a safe space and a trusting relationship to facilitate recovery and personal growth.

I'm ready to see if we're a good fit to work together. Book a FREE 15 minute chat. No pressure. No obligations.

How much does it cost?

It is £65 per online/telephone session, payable securely in advance online.

It is £75 per in-person session. Cash in session or paid via a secure Stripe link on the session day.

Referrals through Meela are £85 for either type of session.

I do offer some student and concession rates. Please contact me to confirm if I have current availability.

What if you can't help me?

Getting the right support for yourself is important. I offer a FREE 15 minute chat over the phone to discuss your needs and expectations before a potential first session with no obligation to continue.

Rest assured that I will only suggest we are able to continue working together if we feel we are a good fit together and that I can work ethically to a high, professional standard.

If for any reason, this is not the case, at any point, I will endeavour to signpost you to more helpful support for your needs.

Do you accept any health insurance?

Yes. I am registered with AXA, AVIVA and WPA. Make sure to mention this when we chat!

I'm feeling really nervous. Can you reassure me?

It's totally understandable to feel nervous. Perhaps you've not had a good experience in the past. Or talking to a stranger feels daunting. Maybe the journey to finding the right therapist for you is proving tough. Whatever your concerns, I'm here for you.

I'm ready to see if we're a good fit to work together. Book a FREE 15 minute chat. No pressure. No obligations.

How does the person-centred approach work?

I work by creating a therapeutic relationship with you built on trust, respect and autonomy. We’d explore collaboratively your intentions and expectations of working together. My role is to emotionally support you through whatever you choose to bring to sessions, free of judgment, no matter how messy or complicated it may feel. You control the pace and content of each session.

I’ll listen, understand and help you make sense of what’s going on for you so you can be empowered to make your own choices. I may offer suggestions that might be helpful for your well-being based on what you share in session.

I sometimes struggle to know what to say. What happens with silences in the session?

This is a really common and important question. There can be two types of silence in the session and they can mean different things for people.

Firstly, often a session won’t be full of words - there’ll likely be moments of quiet for reflection. It could be that you suddenly see something differently and need a moment to absorb this new perspective. It could be that you pause to decide what to say next. This is all a perfectly normal part of therapy.

The other type of silence is the ‘I’m not sure what to say’. This type of silence is ok too, yet can sometimes feel awkward, as though you need to fill the silence. You don’t! No matter the reason, we’ll work through it together, and there’s always a way forward. The silence itself can be a place to begin. In any case, it’s important you know that I’ll always aim to recognise which silence you’re experiencing so I can give you space to process or the help you need to begin or restart.
